112 Kids Will Shop for Free New Shoes at the Danbury Mall Payless Store This Tuesday!

Press Release

Danbury, CT, February 6, 2015: More than one hundred and ten children served by Family & Children’s Aid have signed up to participate in a shoe-shopping trip at the Danbury Fair Mall Payless ShoeSource store this Tuesday. The Payless GivesTM Shoes 4 Kids program is generously providing $20 one-time-use merchandise certificates for each of the 112 children who receive services through our in-home and community based programs who have registered to participate, as well as kids in our two adolescent group homes, after school program and safe home.

Over 80% of the children FCA serves fall into low-to-mid-income or meet the federal guidelines for poverty. Many of our children are accustomed to used or hand-me-down shoes. For them, this will be their first pair of new shoes.

Payless could donate just the shoes, but they value the whole experience of shopping for and the joy of picking out your very own, brand new, pair of shoes. They want to provide that opportunity for children who wouldn't normally have it.

Family & Children’s Aid views our mission broadly, to encompass more than providing quality behavioral and mental health services. If we can alleviate financial burdens, reduce stress at home, and contribute to positive family interactions, then we have also improved the health of our children and their families. The Payless GivesTM Shoes 4 Kids program is helping to do that for our children and families.

About the Payless GivesTM Shoes 4 Kids Program

Payless ShoeSource launched the Payless GivesTM Shoes 4 Kids program in the United States in 2008, giving away $1 million worth of free shoes. In 2009, Payless extended the program beyond the U.S. to reach families in need in Canada, Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries. Now in its sixth year, the program continues to partner with local nonprofits to help them identify children of needy families and provides more than $1.5 million in shoes each year.

About Family & Children’s Aid

Family & Children's Aid (FCA) provides high quality, innovative, behavioral and mental health care to children and their families. Our therapeutic techniques help children who have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect heal so they can choose their own futures rather than allowing their experiences and illnesses to dictate their futures for them.
