Pharmacological Treatment of ADHD, An Overview

This workshop focuses on identifying the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, symptomotology and pharmacological agents used to treat ADHD.

The goal of the workshop is to help the attendee become familiar with the different types of medication families that treat ADHD and their basic mechanism of action. Side effects and medication management strategies are covered to give the attendee insight into the strengths and shortcomings of pharmacological treatment for ADHD.

Objectives:

  1. Identify the 3 main categories of ADHD medication
  2. Develop a basic understanding of how these groups work in the brain to improve symptoms of ADHD
  3. Understand the benefits and risks of ADHD medication and
  4. Gain a basic insight on the management of these medications to improve ADHD symptom outcomes.

Time devoted to announcements, welcoming speeches, scheduled coffee breaks, lunch and other social events cannot be included in the number of CE hours considered. However, be advised that each contact hour may include a 10-minute break. Therefore, if your schedule indicates a meeting from 9-12 with a 15 or 20-minute break mid-way, this would constitute 3 contact hours.
